Usually, there is a direct connection from most major German cities to Passau. However, due to a major modernization project (see also the info page of Deutsche Bahn – in German), rail services to Passau will be disrupted throughout the second half of 2026, including early September when OR2026 takes place. These disruptions affect all routes approaching Passau from the west (i.e., from within Germany). Connections via Austria, however, are expected to remain largely unaffected. Deutsche Bahn is providing replacement bus services, some of which are already bookable via their webpage. In particular, regional as well as long-distance replacement services via Regensburg will be provided (note that the latter may require a seat reservation).
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are doing our best to minimize its impact on your travel plans. We understand that in particular for our international guests this will make travel more thrilling than it has to be. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require any assistance with planning your trip.
